Read MoreWelcome to Avian Snaps. This website is a digital home for Northern California bird photography. I truly enjoy capturing the vibrant wildlife of our local parks. Specifically, I focus on the misty coastal wetlands and golden hills. These regional habitats offer endless inspiration for any nature photographer. Consequently, most of my field notes highlight our beautiful native species.
The true joy of birding begins in the quiet stillness of dawn. For example, I love the peace before the sun rises over the marsh. True observation requires deep patience and a very keen eye. I believe every bird has a unique story worth telling. As a result, I often spend hours waiting for the perfect natural light. Therefore, each image serves as a record of a fleeting, special moment.
While my heart remains in California, I also occasionally travel to other regions. For instance, you will find photos from some distant countries. These international entries are peppered throughout the site to add variety. In addition, they provide a broader context to complex migratory patterns. They demonstrate how our local birds connect to the wider world. Thus, my portfolio offers a diverse and global view of nature.
I use a high-reach mirrorless system to capture these intricate details. Consequently, I can document tiny features like delicate feather textures. This modern technology allows me to see behaviors that are usually invisible. Moreover, it helps me share the quiet dignity of every subject I encounter. Photography has a unique power to turn a common species into a masterpiece. Furthermore, it turns a rare sighting into a permanent memory.
I hope you feel excitement while browsing through these photo essays. I invite you to join me on this visual journey through the trails. Finally, thank you for visiting Avian Snaps and supporting the craft of wildlife observation.
